Dr Laura Hamilton graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland in Brisbane and has worked in a variety of settings from community clinics to tertiary teaching hospitals. Dr Hamilton has advanced training in both Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, and has expertise in the treatment of chronic and persistent pain as well as functional and somatoform disorders.
Dr Hamilton is qualified to treat anyone of any age, but has a particular interest in caring for children and adolescents. Parents are encouraged to be a part of the assessment and management process.
As a psychiatrist, Dr Hamilton is a qualified medical doctor and can prescribe medications. However, she recognises that medication is just one treatment option, and that often other treatments such as "talking therapies" are as good or even better than medicine. Dr Hamilton has experience in many forms of psychotherapy, and has a collaborative approach to treatment which often involves liaising with other health care providers such as psychologists, GP's or a child's paediatrician.
