Kris is a clinical psychologist dedicated to the treatment of anxiety disorders and depression in children, adolescents and adults. He has a passion for working with children and youth and before moving to CBT Professionals has worked for over ten years at Pathways Health and Research Centre in Brisbane, one of the world’s leading centres for building social and emotional skills in children. Kris has a particular interest in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and he has been involved in the development of the FOCUS program, rated as one of the three most effective treatment programs in the world for OCD in children and youth. He also enjoys working with adolescent males making the transition to manhood and has developed targeted interventions for boys and their fathers to teach them how to develop a positive male identity.
Kris completed his studies in Psychology at Griffith University, including Honours in Psychology and his PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2007. His research focused on investigating group belongingness and bullying as a group process in childhood and early adolescence in Australian primary schools.
In addition to his 10 years of clinical private practice work Kris has conducted professional development workshops nationally and internationally to train teachers and mental health professionals in how to implement specific group intervention programs for building social and emotional resilience in children. Kris has also been the senior international trainer for the “Friends for Life” programs at Pathways. He has been invited to provide guest lectures at various universities from University of Qld to Oxford, UK and has appeared on Brisbane radio talk back shows to educate the wider community about OCD. More recently he was invited to present at the first international conference on prevention programs for children in Japan as well as invited to provide training in OCD treatment for children for members of the national CBT Association in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Kris combines a positive psychology approach with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing to empower children, adults and families to create positive change in their lives.
