Dr Kiron Bhatia is a highly respected General Surgeon and Specialist in Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) and Bariatric Surgery, renowned for his expertise in complex surgical care. He began his surgical training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne and completed subspecialty UGI fellowships at the Austin Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. In 2010, Dr Bhatia undertook post-fellowship training at the National Cancer Institute Hospital in Tokyo, gaining advanced experience in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery for oesophageal and gastric cancers. He further enhanced his skills in robotic surgery at Memorial Hermann Medical Centre in Houston, Texas, in 2014.
Since 2010, Dr Bhatia has been a senior consultant in the Upper Gastrointestinal Surgical Unit at the world-class Austin Hospital in Melbourne, delivering patient-centred, evidence-based care. In 2013, he founded Heidelberg Weight Loss Surgery to provide a dedicated, multidisciplinary approach for patients requiring general surgery, bariatric treatment, or UGI cancer management. He offers private care across Heidelberg, Northpark, Knox, and Gisborne.
Dr Bhatia’s surgical expertise spans General Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, and Upper GI conditions, including reflux, benign oesophageal disorders, and Upper GI and gastric cancers. He is especially skilled in minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques. His procedures include Gastric Banding, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y Bypass, revisional bariatric surgery, Heller’s myotomy for achalasia, giant hiatus hernia repair, complex abdominal wall hernia repair, Bariatric Endoscopy, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Gastroscopy, and Colonoscopy.
In addition to clinical work, Dr Bhatia is dedicated to surgical education.
