Dr Kim Taylor is a female specialist plastic surgeon at Re. Plastic Surgery. Born and educated in New Zealand, Kim completed her medical training at the University of Otago medical school in 1996. After graduating, she gained experience in all surgical specialities in New Zealand, before undertaking her Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Plastic Surgical training in Sydney between 2005 and 2008. In 2009, Kim obtained Fellowships in Melbourne, focussing on breast reconstruction, body surgery and skin, then 12 months at the Royal Children’s Hospital performing hand surgery and microsurgery. She has undertaken further courses in areas, including hand surgery and reconstructive flap surgery. She has also conducted research into a number of focus areas including paediatric burns, breast cancer surgery, skin grafts, and the treatment of congenital and post-injury hand disorders. Kim has received considerable recognition for her work as a plastic surgeon. She won the ASAPS (Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) Essay Prize in 2008, was the ASAPS Advanced Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Fellowship recipient in 2009, and was awarded the ASAPS Best Fellow / Maiden Presentation at the ASAPS Conference in Sydney that same year. Kim was also invited as a foreign scholar to the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons 2010 Breast Surgery Symposium in the USA. Kim was recently included in the RealSelf Annual Top 500 list for 2015 with only a handful of Australian Plastic Surgeons recognised for providing invaluable insight and expertise to those looking to make informed, confident choices in elective cosmetic procedures. “I am passionate about excellence in plastic surgery, and my goal is to achieve the best possible surgical outcome for every one of my patients,” says Kim. “However, I also believe it is vital to develop a strong rapport with my patients, both children and adults. I spend time with each patient, focusing on their reconstructive and cosmetic goals, so that I can help them achieve the result they desire.” As a surgeon, Kim’s primary interests are in female plastic surgery (for example breast augmentation, reduction and reconstruction surgery and labioplasty), hand surgery (including paediatric hand surgery), body, skin cancer and general reconstruction. Outside work, Kim enjoys travel, photography, practising her Italian, and activities such as Pilates, golf, hiking and scuba diving.
