Dr Boundy graduated from Flinders University in 1985, but his studies in Sports Medicine had begun before then. In his last year of medicine he spent over three months studying Sports Medicine, first at Lennox Hill Sports Medicine Centre in New York, and then at the Children's Hospital in Boston, finishing the term as part of the Boston Marathon Medical Team.

On graduating Dr Boundy joined the Navy, spending time on surface ships, in submarines, and as the Senior Surgical Officer in the Naval Hospital at HMAS Penguin. After being promoted to Lieutenant Commander he was made Officer In Charge of the Royal Australian Navy's School of Underwater Medicine, which included being the medical director of the Navy's Sydney based Hyperbaric Unit. During this period Dr Boundy also qualified as a Navy Diver.

On leaving the Navy Dr Boundy entered full time Sports Medicine working initially as a Medical Director at Sydney Sports Medicine Centre. Throughout this period, apart from providing assistance to a range of NSWIS teams he was the doctor for the Australian Paralympic Ski Team, travelling to two Winter Paralympic Games and two World Cup tours with the team. He was also one of three doctors and the only Sports and Exercise Physician to be a part of the Australian Paralympic Team for Sydney 2000. He was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his services to Athletes with Disabilities. In 2003 he opened Nepean Specialist Sports Medicine at the foot of the Blue Mountains.

His further studies have included a Graduate Diploma in Exercise and Sports Science (Syd) and a Masters of Sports Medicine at the Australian Institute of Sport. In 2005 he obtained Fellowship of the Australaian College of Sports Physicians.
