Associate Professor Panaretto is the Deputy Director for the Centre for Indigenous Health and is a Public Health Physician with a background in primary health care with major interests in Indigenous health and maternal and child health. She is a Sydney University graduate, a vocationally registered general practitioner and member of the RACGP. Associate Professor Panaretto completed an MPH at James Cook University (JCU) in 2001 and awarded her Fellowship with the Australian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM). For the past 10 years Dr Panaretto has been working in Indigenous health. She is now working for Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC) and the Centre for Indigenous Health, University of Queensland. At QAIHC Dr Panaretto is Director of the QAIHC Population Health Hub which is just in its infancy but aims to improve the links between mainstream population health units and initiatives and the Aboriginal Medical Services. At the UQ Centre for Indigenous Health, which is also a new centre in late 2007, Dr Panaretto’s main role is to lead the research program. Over the past 5 years Dr Panaretto has increasingly participated in Indigenous policy development with QAIHC and OATSIH. She has published a number of papers outlining improvements in primary health care in an Indigenous community. She is also been involved in a number of research projects.
