Dr Waring graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1990.
He completed postgraduate training in respiratory medicine at Royal Perth Hospital and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1998.
He did post fellowship training in London at the Homerton Hospital (Hackney) specialising in Tuberculosis (TB).
In 2001 he took up the lead clinician post in the WA Tuberculosis Control Program, and in 2006 was made Medical Director. He has been the WA member on the National TB Advisory Committee since 2001, and was the chair from 2010 to May, 2015.
Dr Waring has also worked as a respiratory physician, practicing in general respiratory medicine, at Royal Perth Hospital and in private practice since 2001.
In 2014 he was appointed Head of the Respiratory Medicine Department at Royal Perth Hospital. He consults in all areas of general respiratory medicine, but not sleep medicine.
He has sub-specialty interests and expertise in tuberculosis, non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections, other pulmonary infection and bronchiectasis.
