Joe graduated from the University of Queensland obtaining a BMedSci (Dist) in 1983 for his thesis on 'Mechanisms of regression of primary cutaneous melanoma' and subsequently obtained his MBBS (Hons) in 1985, and FRCPA in 1992. Joe furthered his training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University in St Louis in 1993/94 undertaking a Fellowship in Surgical Pathology and subsequently spent time with the renowned A. Bernard Ackerman at the Institute for Dermatopathology in Philadelphia. Since 1994 Joe has been in private practice in Dermatopathology initially at QML and then as a founding partner of IQ Pathology. Joe is a current member and former Treasurer and Vice-President of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society, a current member and previously on the Executive of the International Society of Dermatopathology and member of the American Society of Dermatopathology.
