Dr Lloyd is a graduate of the University of Wollongong, NSW, a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practice and has Bachelor degrees in Health Science and Biology from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He completed his post graduate training in various hospitals throughout Queensland including Townsville, Mount Isa and Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital.
