Dr Schwarz graduated from the University of Sydney with a B Pharm and MBBS. Following this he worked as an intern and a resident at Royal North Shore and Mona Vale Hospitals. He then took his family to a mission hospital in South Africa where he became the Superintendent. In 1984 he returned to Australia with his wife, Rosalie, and their five children (including a high school aged Jane Gray) and established the Schwarz Family Practice in their home. For over thirty years John has worked in general practice, growing his surgery and becoming increasingly involved in the needs of those in Africa. In 2000 Rosalie and John founded the African Aids Foundation which raises funds to support orphans and others affected by HIV/AIDS. This work involves a trip at least once a year to South Africa or Kenya. In 2013 John and Rosalie Schwarz each received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for their longstanding work in Africa. When not at work you will find John and Rosalie managing the various affairs of the African Aids Foundation or planning a trip to their little granddaughters in Hollywood!
