John is a Specialist Anaesthetist with an interest in Pain Management John has over 16 years of experience in Anaesthesia both in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley regions as well as the United Kingdom. Originally from Perth having gained his medical degree from the University of Western Australia, he travelled to the United Kingdom to study Anaesthesia attaining specialist qualifications in both the United Kingdom and Ireland. On return to Australia and settling in the Hunter area he added the Australian anaesthetic fellowship. In 2010 John completed Masters of Medicine ( Pain Management ) at the University of Sydney NSW. John has been assessing and helping patients with chronic pain since 2008. John’s aims are to facilitate the development of an individualized pain self management process, where the patient feels supported, listened to and in control of the process, within a multidisciplinary framework. John sees patients in Charlestown, Maitland and Toronto. John also sees patients in hospital for acute and chronic pain problems upon request from the treating hospital doctor. John continues to foster close links with Royal North Shore Hospital and their high Intensity pain management program. Development of audit and ongoing research in advancing pain management approaches are key areas for all Specialists at the practice.
