Dr Joanne Dondey is an Ophthalmologist with Fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She specialises in adult and paediatric cataract surgery, paediatric ophthalmology, adult and childhood strabismus and maintains her interest in general ophthalmology.
Dr Dondey became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2000. She completed two Fellowships in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, firstly at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne followed by a further 12 months at the Hospital for Sick Children and Toronto Western Hospital in Canada where she was the recipient of the Donald Morin Scholarship in 2002.
Joanne is dedicated to providing eye care to the wider community. She holds a number of Public Hospital Appointments where she treats both adults and children, and has provided neonatal eye services in Hobart for ten years, screening and treating premature babies with retinopathy of prematurity. She has also participated in the Papua New Guinea Project, providing volunteer medical services in Paediatric Ophthalmology in Port Moresby.
She is a member of the RANZCO Paediatric Special Interest Group, American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) and International Strabismological Association. She has undertaken research in Australia and overseas and has several publications in Ophthalmic journals.
She continues to maintain her skills by regular attendance at local and international conferences and is active in registrar and fellow teaching.
