Dr Jo has been practicing as a General Practitioner (GP) in the Kimberley region since 2012 working in private practice and remote aboriginal health. She has previously worked in private practice in both Broome and Kununurra, and serviced the remote aboriginal communities of Beagle Bay, Lombadina, One Arm Point and Bidgyadanga. She initially trained as a Radiographer and went on to study medicine to further develop her passion for caring for the health of others and working in rural and remote areas. She graduated from The University of Notre Dame, Fremantle in 2009 with first class honours and was awarded a number of prizes for her contribution to research in General Practice and Primary Health Care. She is a qualified examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP) and GP Registrar supervisor. She has a wide range of experience in all areas of management of general practice conditions, but has a special interest in:
Skin cancer medicine – Having completed a certificate in Primary Care Skin Cancer Medicine with the University of Queensland, Dr Jo can perform minor skin procedures including skin lesion biopsies and excisions. Aviation medicine – Dr Jo Baker is a Designated Aviation Medical Officer (DAME) for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Family planning – including Mirena insertion and removal, Implanon insertion and removal. Dr Jo is also a qualified Implanon Insertion Trainer. Aboriginal health Women’s and children’s health – including antenatal and postnatal care Men’s health Adolescent health Chronic disease management Mental health Palliative care
