How long have you been practising medicine?
I graduated from the University of Queensland in 1987, then spent 3 years at the Princess Alexandra and Mater hospitals, including work in advanced terms in paediatrics and geriatrics. I worked for several years in general practice before obtaining my Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1993.
How long have you been practising medicine in the Albany Creek area?
I have worked for the last 22 years in the Albany Creek area, and have been privileged to form many long-term relationships with my patients. I have cared for multiple generations in some families, and now see adults who I knew as children. I have lived in the area for much of this time, and my children went to school locally. It’s a wonderful place to live and work.
What inspired you to become a Doctor?
I didn’t come from a family tradition of doctors, but was encouraged after finishing my secondary education to consider a career in medicine. Nowadays, I feel very fortunate to love my job and for the opportunities it affords me in meeting the wonderful people I care for and work with.
What’s your passion personally?
My personal passion is my family – my husband and two gorgeous sons! We are a very active and adventurous family who love the outdoors and pushing the barriers with new experiences. I love bush walking and the beach. Nothing though is quite like a lazy afternoon spent reading a good book!
What’s your passion professionally?
My professional passion is for my patients, and the varied stories of their lives. I believe that a GP should be more than a medical problem solver, but someone who makes you feel valued, respected and understood. It is a privilege to guide and care for people through life’s challenges and joys!
My areas of interest are
I enjoy all aspects of family medicine including men’s and women’s health, paediatrics and aged care.
