Dr Jeff Friedrich
Dr Friedrich’s sub-specialty interests include intravitreal injections for age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion and diabetic retinopathy as well as medical and laser treatments for glaucoma. For over 10 years Dr Friedrich specialised in small incision phaco-emulsification cataract surgery with experience dating back to 1987 when he learned the then innovative procedure from the late Dr Michael Silva, pioneer of the technique in Australasia Professional Credentials
Dr Friedrich is a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital where he was Secretary of the Division of Surgery for some years. From 1987 to 2003 Dr Friedrich was also a VMO at Concord Repatriation General Hospital where he specialised in medical retina and laser and from 1988 to 2012 held a VMO appointment at St Vincent’s Private Hospital.
Dr Friedrich is an International Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists.
In 2006, Dr Friedrich returned from a mini-fellowship in medical retina at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Centre.
From 2009 – 2011, he has participated in international multicenter studies involving a new medical treatment for age related macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusion. His role in these trials (the VIEW 2 and Galileo Studies) was as an unmasked investigator.
