Dr. Mahapatra is a general adult psychiatrist having trained in psychiatry in the UK and Australia. He is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Additionally, he has the degree of Master of Medical Science in Clinical Psychiatry (with distinctions) from the University of Leeds School of Medicine, UK. He has more than 10 years of experience in managing a variety of psychiatric conditions. Apart from adequate expertise in managing general psychiatric conditions, his special interests include difficult to treat anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder and variants, first episode psychosis and personality disorders.
Dr. Mahapatra takes pride in developing a collaborative rapport with individuals seeking treatment and feels that true recovery lies in individuals gaining better understanding of themselves and their situation. His practice is based on thorough assessment and appropriate use of therapeutic techniques combined with careful prescription of medication. He uses therapy techniques based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Dr. Mahapatra has actively participated in teaching Medical students and trainees in Psychiatry and has lectured in the University of Leeds, UK. He has done a number of service improvement audits. He has been a co-reviewer of a systematic review which was presented in the Tenth World Psycho-Oncology conference in Madrid, Spain in 2008. He is a member of the Cochrane Collaboration and has published in the Cochrane Data Base in 2014.
