General Practice

I was born and educated in Brisbane and graduated from the university of Queensland in 1978 with second class honors. During my clinical undergraduate attachments, I worked in Longreach and Wellington NZ. I worked for 2 years after graduation at the Ipswich General Hospital, a considerable period of this attachment being in the area of obstetrics and gynaecology, so as to obtain the required clinical experience to receive a Diploma in Obstetrics and gynaecology. I spent my third year of hospital residency at the Mater Hospital, which included a rural rotation to Bundaberg for 3 months. I subsequently worked in a Southside Brisbane general practice for 5 years and obtained my fellowship in general practice. After a 2-year sojourn in Newcastle, NSW, relating to my husband’s medical specialist training, I returned to Queensland in 1988 and commenced practice at the (then) Roma St Medical and Dental Practice in the Brisbane Transit Centre. This continued until the retirement of the senior partners, Doctors Gerry and Pat Brady, in 2007. I was very happy when the practice was taken over by Dr Mardi Vory and its subsequent transformation into Barracks Medical allowed me to provide continuity of care to my longstanding group of patients.

I am interested in all areas of general practice, particularly preventative medicine, women’s health issues, and mental health. I have undertaken teaching undergraduate medical students from UQ in their general practice terms, and enjoyed and learnt from their interactions.

I have 3 adult children and am currently deriving much pleasure from having a new grandson.

My interests in my personal life (apart from, of course, my family!) include skiing, music, reading, walking my dogs, and travel. I have been learning Italian for some time and continue to do so in the hope of achieving fluency at some future point. I have sung in choirs in the past and enjoy playing the piano. I hope to be able to continue working several days per week with the supportive team at Barracks Medical for the foreseeable future.
