Dr Jacky Hewitt is a Melbourne paediatric endocrinologist who undertook specialist training at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in Perth. She has developed a broad expertise in the care of endocrine disorders in children. These include those of growth, puberty or body hair, thyroid, vitamin D and bones, obesity, diabetes, pituitary and adrenal glands, and the ovaries or testicles. Dr Hewitt has authored a large number of medical and scientific journal articles as well as treatment guidelines for a range of endocrine conditions, including thyroid, pituitary and adrenal disorders, diabetes, disorders of sex development such as Turner Syndrome/Klinefelter Syndrome and congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and gender identity dysphoria. She is recognised as a leading expert in disorders of sex development and gender identity dysphoria, and has been invited to speak at national and international medical conferences on these topics. She is presently completing a PhD in the molecular genetics of sex development, and her research has been commended and supported by the University of Melbourne, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, the Australasian Paediatric Endocrine Group, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia. Jacky is a university lecturer in paediatrics, and in disorders of sex development and the development of gender in children. She teaches at both the University of Melbourne and Monash University.
