Dr Jacinta Tobin graduated from University of Melbourne in 1983. She trained in general paediatrics before commencing research training in gastro-oesophageal reflux at Monash University and completing Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 1991. She then commenced a paediatric practice based at Cabrini Hospital.

She left Australia in 1996 in order to undergo further training in nutrition and gastroenterology, focusing on coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel diseases at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and University of Birmingham UK. In 1999 she returned to Australia working at Monash University and in her practice. She then completed a PhD at Melbourne in the inflamed gut looking at pain mechanisms. Subsquently she has gone on to share 3 NHMRC research grants looking at allergy and gastro-oesophageal reflux (Adelaide), probiotics and premature infants (Melbourne) and probiotics in pregnancy (Queensland). Her special interests are indigenous health, nutrition in Crohn’s disease, probiotics in disease prevention, and medical education.
