Dr Jacinta Holmes (Gastroenterologist)

Dr Holmes completed her medical degree at Monash University in 2003, graduating with honours. After completing her internship and basic physician training at Monash Health from 2004 to 2008, she passed her written and clinical examinations in internal medicine in 2008, receiving the highest aggregate for the clinical examination at Monash Health. Dr Holmes completed her advanced training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Monash Health and St Vincent’s Hospital.

Following the completion of her training in Gastroenterology, Dr Holmes combined her clinical work with research, embarking upon a doctor of philosophy (PhD) through the Department of Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital. Dr Holmes has presented her research at numerous national and international conferences, and has numerous invited and original research publications in multiple international journals. She has been awarded a number of scholarships, grants and awards for her work.

Dr Holmes has appointments in the Gastroenterology Department at both St Vincent’s Hospital and Monash Health, and is actively involved in clinical trials at both hospitals. She has a broad interest in all fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, including viral hepatitis, other liver diseases, liver lesions, inflammatory bowel disease, functional gut disorders, coeliac disease, and bowel cancer screening. In addition to gastroscopy, colonoscopy and polypectomy, Dr Holmes is accredited to perform capsule endoscopy (pill camera).
