Dr Ian Porter completed his undergraduate medical degree at The University of Queensland and subsequently his FRANZCR Fellowship in Radiation Oncology at the Queensland Radium Institute and The William Buckland Radiotherapy Centre at Alfred Health in Melbourne. He has provided a consultation Radiation Oncology service at Cabrini Malvern, Brighton and Prahran for over ten years.

Ian was the first Radiation Oncologist in Australasia to use Brainlab/Novalis gated Stereotactic Radiation Therapy for liver tumours. He is a trials investigator with the Australasian TROG research group and is a NHMRC Associate Investigator. He is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University.
