Dr Ian McKenzie is a consultant Urological surgeon treating all aspects of adult Urology. He is fellowship trained in Uro-oncology and robotic surgery with a special interest in cancers of the prostate, bladder and kidney.
He graduated with Honours from the University of Queensland medical school in 2004 and commenced surgical training in 2007, first in General, then Urological surgery. During his training he undertook a year of clinical research investigating the mechanisms underlying advanced prostate cancer. This resulted in a research Masters degree from the Queensland University of Technology and the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre.
Dr McKenzie completed his Urology training in Brisbane in 2014. He holds full specialist registration, and is a member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand and a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr McKenzie has completed 18 months of subspecialist Uro-oncology and robotic surgery fellowship training. He spent 6 months initially with the Queensland Robotic Surgery Unit at Greenslopes Hospital in Brisbane. He then received a scholarship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons to complete 12 months of training at the Bristol Urological Institute in the United Kingdom. This is one of the largest, and busiest robotic Urology units in the UK, and is an accredited robotic training site of the Robotic Urology Section of the European Association of Urology.
Since returning from the UK with his young family he has taken up a public visiting consultant appointment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Redlands Hospital. He consults, admits and operates for private patients at Greenslopes Private Hospital.
