John graduated from the University of NSW and worked at St Vincents in Sydney, then Darwin then Lismore Base Hospital before going to the UK for 3 years. After a number of years in Rural General Practice on the North Coast of NSW, John came to the Illawarra to become the inaugural Director of the Illawarra GP Training unit at Shellharbour Hospital.

At the beginning of the University of Wollongong’s Graduate School of Medicine (GSM), he took on some tasks for the setting up of the clinical teaching at TWH and was then appointed the Regional Hospital Academic Leader : Illawarra. He is a Clinical Professor with the Graduate School of Medicine.

His clinical work is in General Practice in the Kiama/Gerringong region and he spent 5 years doing part-time community Palliative Care from David Berry Hospital, NSW.
