His interests include teaching, peri-operative medicine, aeromedical evacuation, disaster planning and human factors. His medical career has taken him to many far-flung locations across the Australian Outback and through-out the Pacific region.
Married with a 13 year old daughter, Dr. Coates lives on a rural block outside of Melbourne. He has a passion in horticulture and has been successful in growing fruit, berries, and vegetables
