Gillian enjoys working with clients with a diverse range of presentations including depression, anxiety and phobias, stress and adjustment-related concerns, substance use disorders, trauma, personality disorders, emotion dysregulation and grief and loss. She has a particular interest in women’s health issues such as those relating to the pre- and post-natal period, grief and loss related to fertility, relationship & intimacy problems, and recovery from intimate partner violence (including emotionally abusive relationships). Gillian also specialises in adjustment to cancer and other health and medical issues, having worked across various hospital oncology settings assisting patients with psychological concerns related to cancer, including the physical and emotional challenges such a diagnosis can bring.
Gillian utilises a range of evidence-based therapies in assisting clients with their difficulties including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Schema Therapy, and is flexible in tailoring the intervention to the needs of the individual. She works collaboratively with the client to establish and progress towards shared goals, and strives to adopt a compassionate, warm and empathic approach within all her therapeutic interactions.
