Dr Gian Urbani has been an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist since late 2001, after he qualified from the University of the Free State in South Africa. He then relocated to the Western part of Canada where he developed his broad skills in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the next 8 years. He developed a keen interest in pelvic reconstructive surgery, but not to the point where he would use a lot of mesh; Dr Urbani supports native tissue repair of pelvic organ prolapse.
His subsequent interest in advanced, minimally invasive gynaecology culminated when he started (in conjunction with Dr Sunny Baruah) the Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy service at the Joondalup Health Campus for public patients.
