Following a period in community and hospital pharmacy Dr Touma went on to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Sydney. His internship was completed at Nepean Hospital and his physician training was completed at Concord and Nepean Hospitals.
His advanced cardiology training was completed at Nepean Hospital and his interventional cardiology fellowship was completed at St George Public Hospital, Kogarah.
Dr Touma has performed over 2000 coronary interventions and is a specialist radial operator. He is expertly trained in complex PCI including left main, bifurcation, rotablator and chronic total occlusions. IVUS and OCT imaging modalities are frequently used. FFR or pressure testing is a dominant feature of practice to ensure that a stent will be beneficial for you. Dr Touma has particular expertise in stent biomechanics and design allowing him to choose precisely the right stent for your coronary blockage.
He has a keen interest in calcified lesion management and use of the rotablator. He also has a specific interest in treating coronary bypass graft disease and coronary artery disease in the very elderly.
Dr Touma is an accredited implanter of magmaris bioabsorbale magnesium coronary stents - stents that dissolve from the body without a trace left behind. These stents may offer major advantages in younger patients with coronary disease.
