Dr Geoff Lee obtained his medical degree at the University of Otago Medical School in New Zealand in 2000. He completed general cardiology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2008 and then undertook a PhD at the University of Melbourne with Professor Kalman from 2009-2012. He completed his PhD entitled “Mechanisms of atrial fibrillation in man: importance of the pulmonary veins and left atrial drivers” During this time he developed novel epicardial mapping software and described the first epicardial AF rotor in man.

He has received several prestigious awards including the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Gustav Nossal Postgraduate Scholarship for the highest ranked applicant from the combined medical and dental postgraduate research scholarships (2011) and has a Neil-Hamilton Fairley Early Career Fellowship (2012-2016).

After his PhD he completed a clinical and research fellowship with Professor Schilling at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London’s premier quaternary EP referral center. During this time he specialized in complex 3-D electro-anatomical mapping of arrhythmias and the ablation of Atrial Fibrillation and Ventricular Tachycardia.

His current research focuses on 3D mapping and visualization of persistent atrial fibrillation. He is also responsible for the clinical supervision and training of cardiology registrars, cardiology fellows and PhD candidates.

He is dedicated to education of patients and doctors on the management of heart rhythm disorders. Dr Lee was involved with the development of the Atrial Fibrillation Health Pathways an online resource for General Practitioners and has also designed the Melbourne Heart Rhythm website.

Dr Lee runs the Rapid Access Arrhythmia Clinic at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and also is one of the cardiologists responsible for the ICD clinic. He performs device implantation and electrical studies and ablations at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and also at the Melbourne Private Hospital and Warringal Private Hospital.
