Dr Avery is a fully qualified and experienced Plastic Surgeon with extensive experience in both Australia and New Zealand. He is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
His main areas of focus are cosmetic, reconstructive, skin cancer (including melanoma), hand and peripheral nerve surgery.
Dr Avery relocated from Sydney to Newcastle in early 2013 to join Dr Moncrieff and the Hunter Plastic Surgery team as he was committed enough to the Region to become full-time resident.
He consults from the Hunter Plastic Surgery clinic in Charlestown and operates privately at Lingard Private Hospital and Charlestown Private Hospital. For public cases, he operates at the Calvary Mater and Belmont Hospitals. He also performs emergency hand surgery in the John Hunter Hospital.
Dr Avery graduated from the University of Sydney in Medicine in 2001 and also holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy. He completed 10 years of specialist plastic surgical training in 2011. He has undertaken fellowships in Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgery, Paediatric Plastic Surgery including Cleft Lip and Palate, and Head and Neck Cancer Surgery.
