Hi, I’m Dr Floyd Gomes. I am the founder of Atticus Heath. A little about myself - I firstly studied commerce at University of Melbourne, before heading to the University of Queensland to study medicine. I undertook some terms in central Queensland then travelled to Ethiopia to work at a hospital in the capital Addis Ababa. After this, I returned home to Melbourne and worked at Monash Medical Centre. I was initially training in general surgery and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy at the University of Melbourne. I then completed my Primary Surgical Exams through the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. However, I decided that general practice was my calling, and therefore worked towards becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners. At the same time, I have been focussing on skin cancer, and completed my Master of Medicine (Skin Cancer) through the University of Queensland. I enjoy all aspects of General Practice. However, I do have particular interests, these are: Preventative health – Whether you’re 22 or 102, I want to keep you as fit as you can be! Skin cancer - This disease is very common in Australia. Having had a surgical background, I am very interested in conducting skin checks and removing any spots which are suspicious for skin cancer. In addition to this, I always strive to achieve a great cosmetic outcome. Outreach services - Coming into the clinic can be difficult for many people, particularly the elderly. With more people understandably wanting to stay in their own homes rather than a nursing home, I am interested in how general practice can support this, and to provide an ongoing doctor to you in your home when you need help. This is a challenge. One that I hope to help address. On a personal level, I am father of five kids. Nathalie, my wife, is also a doctor, working in anaesthetics. We met in medical school (as you do!) and travelled significantly throughout central Queensland, spending some time within an Aboriginal settlement, before heading down to Melbourne. Together, we share a common goal: to be the best we can be in our personal and professional lives, to change the world for the better – and to have fun doing it.
