I came to Newcastle to study Medicine from Melbourne where I had been living and working as a registered nurse at the royal Melbourne Hospital. I grew up in a small country town in West Gippsland about 100km east of Melbourne where I'd spent my youth being madly involved in all kinds of sports and camping adventures with my family. After graduating from Newcastle medical school I went on to complete GP training and worked in Dora Creek and Forster finally moving to Hamilton Doctors for a 6 month stint before going back to the local hospital system to work at the James Fletcher Hospital in psychiatry and then at Maitland Hospital where I completed my Diploma of Obstetrics. I took over the practice from the previous owner when he retired a few years ago. I enjoy all aspects of working at the coalface in general practice / family medicine and have worked at Hamilton doctors for about 12 years with our dedicated team . I am ever inspired by the extraordinary capacity of ordinary people in our ordinary lives. I want to continue to provide the best of old fashioned general practice care using modern medicine approaches for our families and patients to stay well. I advocate for our community as patients and our GP teams as health providers of this essential service in our increasingly complex health mileau. I have a keen interest in innovation. I support a team and whole of system approach to ‘primary health care’, ie general practice, and have contributed to our health planning and implementation by holding various positions as a member of the division of general practice board and then on the founding team for our Medicare Locals ‘health pathways'; the first Australian site to apply this web based information management and referral resource for GP teams. More recently I represent the Hunter Medicare Local in the “Alliance “ between the regions larger key stake holders in health the Local Health District and the 'Little Company of Mary' (the Mater hospital) by being on their leadership team and working on the 'copd' workstream. I take great delight in the simple things of family life, adore boating, camping and relax by getting away from it all by losing myself in nature, good food, a good book and good company.
