Dr Edward Greenrod grew up in Adelaide and graduated on the Dean’s list from the University of Adelaide Medical School. He completed his Specialist Ophthalmic training in Melbourne followed by post-graduate work both interstate and overseas. His experience includes sub-specialty management of complex conditions of the front of the eye with particular expertise in the management of cataract surgery, corneal conditions and other anterior segment (front of the eye) surgery.
He has been a fellow and visiting specialist at a number of renowned overseas centres including Moorfields Eye Hospital (London), Addenbrookes’ Hospital (Cambridge), Quinze-Vingts CHNO (Paris) and the Emmetropia Mediterranean Eye Clinic (Crete) – the birthplace of modern refractive laser surgery. He has additionally been involved in overseas aid projects, providing care for cataract and corneal patients in both Nepal and East Timor.
Since returning to Australia, Dr Greenrod has established and continues to direct the corneal service for patients at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne where he is a visiting specialist. He is additionally a visiting specialist with the Corneal Unit at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne. He remains active in training the next generation of Eye Specialists, providing clinical and surgical supervision and career mentorship to trainee Ophthalmologists and fellows as part of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmolgists (RANZCO) training program.
