Dr Douglas Bridge is a graduate of the University of Western Australia with postgraduate specialisation in internal medicine and tropical medicine.
He lived in a village in Bangladesh for two years.
He was a general physician at Fremantle Hospital from 1981 to 1993 and commenced practising palliative medicine in 1983. Dr Douglas helped develop the specialty of palliative medicine in Australia and Southeast Asia.
Dr Douglas was the Head of Department of palliative care at Royal Perth Hospital 1993 to 2013.
He is a visiting consultant in palliative care to the Midwest and Wheatbelt regions with special interest in the psychospiritual challenges of patients facing death.
