Deon was born in Benoni, South Africa and achieved his medical degree from the University of Pretoria in 1988.

He worked in a variety of settings, including emergency medicine before migrating to Australia in 2000. In 2002 he became a Fellow of the RACGP and has been involved with the college as an examiner since 2007.

Since arriving in Australia, Deon has worked in rural Queensland, Victoria and has just finished a stint in remote Western Australia and the Northern Territory. He has worked extensively in Aboriginal health, remote medicine, the prison system, after hours clinics and acute care clinics.

Deon is happy to see patients of all ages, genders and persuasions. He has a special interest in:

Preventative care Chronic conditions Acute medicine Minor surgical procedures (including skin lesion excisions and Implanon insertion/removal) Joint injuries including fractures and dislocations Deon is married to Karin and has two adult children, Mari and Dirk. He is an avid Hawthorn supporter and his interests outside of medicine include philately, history, reading, travel and almost all sorts of sport. He is also a stamp collector who knows judo!
