Dr Durkin undertook his ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He set up his ophthalmology practice in Nowra in 1992 introducing modern small incision cataract surgery to the Shoalhaven region. He has developed an extensive ophthalmology practice specialising in the treatment of cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
