Southern Sports Medicine is headed by Dr David Velten, a certified general practitioner (2001) who holds a Master of Sports Medicine degree (2009). David is member of Sport Medicine Australia and the AFL Medical Officers Association. David has a broad depth of knowledge relating to sports injury diagnosis, management and rehabilitation. Between 2008-2010 David was an AFL medical officer for the North Melbourne Football Club. He is currently the medical officer for the Gold Coast Suns away games, joining them in their inaugural year (2011). Dr Velten is also the appointed medical officer for the Kooyong Classic Tennis tournament (2015 to present). He was also appointed as the independent duty doctor at the Davis Cup in 2017.
David’s interest in Sports Medicine also extends to his Operating Assistant role, supporting the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group surgeons in knee, foot and shoulder procedures.
