Professor David A Mackey took over as Managing Director of the Lions Eye Institute and Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Centre for Ophthalmology and Vision Science at the University of Western Australia in March 2009. Professor Mackey has achieved international recognition as a genetic ophthalmologist. His original research into the genetics of glaucoma and in the fields of optic atrophy and congenital cataract has received continued research funding support for the past two decades.
