Dr David has been a doctor for 29 years. He loves caring for people whoever they are and wherever they’re from in a thorough, respectful and inclusive way. He and his wife Andi came to Broome in 2013. With 6 grown-up children, they fully embrace life in the Kimberley. Working part-time, Dr David is accredited in all aspects of family medicine and generalist emergency medicine. His specific interests lie in adolescent health, men’s health and women’s health. He is proficient in safely performing a wide range of procedures – joint injections, biopsies, excisions and incisions, Mirena insertion & removal, and Implanon insertion & removal. Dr David gained his medical degree with distinction at Edinburgh University in 1988. After formal training in Scotland, Canada and NZ, he gained higher qualifications in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Family Medicine, passing College examinations with distinction. There led on 3 phases to a diverse career with remote rural and global perspectives – as a Principal running a medical practice in the Scottish Highlands (young children at home); then as the UK Regional Medical Adviser for Asia, working for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office with responsibility for medical centres in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh (teenagers at boarding school); and then coming to Australia in 2013 to be the Regional Medical Director for the Kimberley within WA’s Country Health Service (grown up kids at university and beyond). In each role – executive leader, medical administrator, family physician – Dr David aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Kimberley folk with compassion and professionalism.
