David Bowyer was born and educated in Western Victoria. He joined Geelong Orthopaedics in 2008 and has established a busy practice focusing on lower limb surgery, with a special interest in hip replacement, sports related knee surgery and knee replacement. He consults at the St John of God Specialist Centre and operates at St John of God Hospital and the Geelong Private Hospital, as well as holding a public appointment at Barwon Health - The Geelong Hospital.
David completed his medical degree in 1996 at The University of Melbourne. He then undertook orthopaedic training in Victoria, and was admitted to fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association. David spent two years in Oxford, England completing a fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, and was fortunate enough to work with some of the world’s leading authorities in hip replacement and knee surgery.
David has a keen interest in education having travelled to Stanford University, USA as a visiting lecturer and performing a similar role at The University of Melbourne. He currently lectures and tutors medical students at Deakin University and is keenly involved in teaching orthopaedic trainees. David is happily married with three children, living on the Bellarine Peninsula. He enjoys water sports, golf and spending time with his family.
