David is a Clinical Psychologist who holds an honours degree from the University of Newcastle and a Clinical Doctorate from Macquarie University. He is registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and is a member of the College of Clinical Psychologists of the Australian Psychological Society.
David has worked as a Clinical Psychologist for Hunter New England Mental Health for the past nine years while also working in private practice. He has worked with groups and individuals, supervised and lectured to various institutions and professional gatherings.
David has a heart to help individuals who are in distress. He seeks to help people to be free from emotional prisons, like those of depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction. He has a firm belief in recovery, is experienced at recognising the conditions that will promote recovery, and is committed to the journey.
David uses “here and now” approaches (like cognitive behavioural therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy) and also works through past issues. Above all, he values the healing power of a therapeutic relationship.
David sees the heart and mind as inseparable from the physical body and the body of the family and he encourages health in all areas. For this reason, he is often to be found running or riding up hills in the dark, on roads and in the bush, hopefully getting home before his two young girls are awake!
