Dr Christos Apostolou is a consultant upper gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgeon.
He brings expertise in the fields of upper gastrointestinal, liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery especially in treatment of upper GI and HPB malignancies and is fully trained in laparoscopic and open surgery as well as diagnostic and interventional endoscopy.
His practice additionally encompasses aspects across abdominal surgery - including gallbladder surgery, management of reflux and hiatal hernia, surgical management of liver and pancreatic disease, endoscopic and open abdominal wall hernia repair, GI endoscopy (jncl. ERCP).
He completed hi s surgical training in Cape Town South Africa obtaining Fellowship on the College of Surgeons of S. Africa, FCS (SA), in 2003. He then completed a 2-year fellowship in surgical gastroenterology at Groote Schuur Hospital, culminating in the Certificate of Surgical Gastroenterology by the South African College of Surgeons in 2006. He was awarded a Masters in Surgery by the University of Cape Town in 2006 for his work on the management and classification of pancreatic pseudocysts, MMed (Surg).
He was subsequently appointed as a sessional consultant in HPB surgery and Honorary Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Cape Town and established a successful private practice. Upon moving to Sydney in 2011, he undertook an additional 2-year fellowship in upper gastrointestinal surgery in the busy Bankstown and Liverpool Hospitals, culminating in admission to fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons following exceptional performance assessment in August 2012 (FRACS).
Dr Apostolou holds the position of Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales, Clinical Lecturer Macquarie University and is a member of the Australia & New Zealand Hepatobiliary (ANZHPBA) and Oesophagogastric Associations (ANZGOSA)
