Dr Charles Malpas is a clinical neuropsychologist with clinical interests in epilepsy, neurodegenerative disorders, multiple sclerosis, and acquired cognitive impairment.

Charles completed his training in general psychology at The University of Melbourne. He also gained his specialist qualification in clinical neuropsychology at University of Melbourne while simultaneously completing a PhD in Alzheimer's disease research. During his training, Charles interned at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Alfred Hospital, and The Royal Children's Hospital.

After completing his training, Charles undertook a postdoctoral research position in paediatric neuropsychiatry at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, while also completing his neuropsychology registrar in the epilepsy program at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is currently a senior clinical neuropsychologist at The Alfred Hospital, where he consults in the comprehensive epilepsy program. He specialises in the prediction of post-surgical cognitive and psychopathological outcomes. Charles holds an honorary clinical neuropsychology position at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in the department of neurology. Charles has been providing expert witness services for criminal and civil matters since 2018, and currently runs his own medicolegal neuropsychology practice.


Charles has extensive research and lecturing experience. He is currently a leader of the epilepsy and neurocognitive disorders research streams in the Clinical Outcomes Research Unit (CORe) at the University of Melbourne, based within The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Charles has lectured, tutored, and coordinated subjects at the University of Melbourne, Monash University, and Australian College of Applied Psychology. He specialises in teaching biostatistics to clinicians and researchers.

Charles is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and Fellow of the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists. He also holds membership with the British Psychological Society.
