Acute and chronic medical conditions in children from birth to adolescence. Carolyn has particular interests in asthma, eczema, infant feeding problems, growth concerns, developmental delay, autism, ADHD, behavioural and learning problems.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE Carolyn van Heerden works as a General Paediatrician at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash Medical Centre and in a Community Health Service. She combines this with medical student teaching through the University of Melbourne.

Carolyn’s undergraduate degree was obtained at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and after working in the United Kingdom for three years, she completed her paediatric training in Cape Town in 2006. She then relocated to Melbourne and was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2011.

Carolyn is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Teaching – she has a passion for teaching medical students and young doctors. PRACTICE PHILOSOPHIES As a mother of twins, Carolyn has a good understanding of the joys and challenges of parenthood and relates well to parents with young children.

She enjoys working closely with allied health professionals and educators and believes that close communication with therapists / educators improves opportunities for her patients.
