How long have you been practising medicine?

I initially began studying medicine in my country of origin, El Slavador. After moving to Australia I continued my studies and graduated in 1997 with a full medical degree from the University of Queensland. I completed my internship at the Mater Public Hospital in South Brisbane.

I left the Mater Hospital as a Senior House Officer to join the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners gaining my fellowship in 2002. Since then I have remained an active member of the college and hold a position as a senior examiner for the College Exam and continue to be involved in the training of GP registrars.

How long have you been practising medicine in the Albany Creek area?

I have worked in Albany Creek since 2002. This has given me a very good understanding of the areas community and healthcare needs. It is a wonderful place to raise a family and to practise General Practice.

What inspired you to become a Doctor?

I have always been interested in the medical field. The understanding of disease processes and the management challenges of medical conditions fascinate me. More importantly, I am excited by the opportunity of making a difference in a person’s health.

After my medical degree, I completed my specialisation in General Practice because I believed that as a GP, it would give me the best opportunity to become an integral part of each of my patient’s life journeys and to look after the many domains of their health needs.

What’s your passion personally?

I love my family and I can certainly say that they have been a fundamental part of my career in General Practice. They have been both a source of knowledge and support. Through them I have learnt so much as a father and I believe my family has helped me to become a much better doctor than I would have on my own.

I love bushwalking, camping and exploring the Australian Great Outdoors with my family. In my personal time, I am a passionate archer and huge fan of the Brisbane Roar.

What’s your passion professionally?

My passion is to make a positive difference to the well being of my patients, by conquering their clinical challenges. It’s a humbling experience to be part of my patients and their family’s journey through life. To be there with them through childhood and helping young people in their transition into independent adults, parenthood and family life.

My areas of interest are paediatrics, dermatology, asthma, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
