Dr Bruce Caldwell specialises in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee.
Dr Caldwell grew up on Lake Macquarie near Newcastle. Following graduation from Sydney University in 1981 he spent his internship and resident years at RPA Hospital, Sydney. He commenced orthopaedic training in 1987 and following graduation in 1991 he commenced sub-specialty training as a Fellow in knee surgery with Dr Mervyn Cross OAM and A/Prof Leo Pinczewski at NSOSMC. Following a Fellowship in foot and ankle surgery with Dr Mark Myerson in Baltimore he commenced practice in 1991.
Dr Caldwell has a particular interest in sports medicine, ligament reconstruction, patellofemoral joint surgery, primary and revision, partial and total knee replacement surgery. He has previously been involved in research into the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and has performed over 5000 such procedures. He is involved in research into the mechanism of the patellofemoral joint. He was the Medical Venue Manager for weightlifting for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Dr Caldwell was the Secretary of the Australian Knee Society in 2009 & 2010. Commenced practice in 1991.
As a member of Orthopaedic Outreach he recently travelled to Honiara, Solomon Islands to teach the Pacific Island Orthopaedic Association trainees. He has previously volunteered in Fiji and Tonga.
Dr Caldwell is an Educator for both ZimmerBiomet and Synthes Australia, and is the Chairman of the Masterclass in Knee Replacement Surgery.
