Dr Brendan Vote graduated from University of Queensland and was medical officer in RAAF for 6 years before commencing his ophthalmology training in Dunedin New Zealand. He completed retinal fellowships in Auckland New Zealand, Brighton UK and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London before returning to Tasmania in 2004 where he provides a state wide vitreoretinal service. He established Launceston Eye Institute in 2008, and was awarded the position of Clinical Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Tasmania. Dr Vote has also set up Tasmanian Eye Institute to offer research, educational and ophthalmic service to the Tasmanian community. He is currently involved in multicentre international and Australian trials assessing Lucentis therapy in diabetic maculopathy and a multicentre Australian trial, researching the effectiveness of Lucentis therapy for macular degeneration. Tasmanian Eye Institute researchers are also evaluating the effectiveness of Lucentis therapy in macular degeneration patients at Launceston Eye Institute. Dr Vote continues an active research and teaching role (recently awarded for this role by RANZCO), including an active role in teaching ocular physiology at University of Otago, New Zealand. He has served on the scientific committee for RANZCO (2004-2009) and as Chairman of the CPD Audit committee (2004-2010) and has been QEC representative and Director of training in Tasmania from 2004-2013. He was on ASO board from 2009-2012.
