Brendan Murphy was raised in Sheffield, England. After reading medicine in London and psychiatry in Manchester, he moved to Australia in 1999. He is an Associate Professor at Monash University and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists both in Australia and the UK. He has written widely on schizophrenia, and on youth mental health. His nonfiction work on the development of football in Victorian society, From Sheffield with Love, was published by SportsBooks in 2007. He is also the author of a series of young adult fantasy novels based on Celtic mythology. His clinical interests include youth psychiatry, general adult psychiatry, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety disorders and trauma histories.
