After completing his anaesthetic training in Melbourne and St George's Hospital, London, Dr Butler became a specialist anaesthetist in 1982. He joined the Albert Street Anaesthetic Group in 1984. Dr Butler has particular interest and experience in providing anaesthesia for plastic and reconstructive surgery including cleft lip and palate repair, facio-maxillary surgery, ear-nose-throat (ENT) surgery, orthopaedic surgery and obstetric anaesthesia and analgesia. Dr Butler has been on numerous volunteer medical aid trips with Interplast Australia and New Zealand most recently to Papua New Guinea and China. He is currently a member of the surgical committee at Interplast. Dr Butler has maintained an interest in teaching anaesthetic registrars and has been a sessional anaesthetists at the Royal Children's Hospital since 1982.
