Dr Beryl Tan (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon)

Dr Beryl Tan is a New Zealand trained Specialist Plastic Surgeon who obtained her fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the Specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (FRACS) in 2015.

Her main areas of interest are:

Breast cosmetic and reconstructive surgery Skin cancer surgery Facial (including eyelids) aesthetic surgery Body contouring. She also performs acute and elective hand surgeries, with a significant amount of her time at three of the busiest public hospitals (Northern, Western and Eastern Health) in Melbourne. This also involves teaching junior medical and nursing staff, as well as participating in regular audit and education meetings.

Coming from a Malaysian Chinese background, Beryl is sensitive to various cultures and is able to consult in English, with less fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese and Bahasa.

Known for her ability to connect with her patients, Beryl's priority is patient satisfaction and is committed to providing exceptional service through consultation, in-surgery and follow up stages. She believes in working with patients, for a better outcome for patients.

More info / bio Having completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from University of Auckland, Beryl undertook more than 7 years of training in her specialty. She also spent one year of doing laboratory research in fat tissue engineering, supervised by Professor Wayne Morrison, with the support of the Australian Postgraduate Award via University of Melbourne. She then completed a 2-year fellowship across Australia and Europe. This included additional training in post-cancer surgical reconstruction (particularly after breast cancer removal surgery) at the prestigious Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and aesthetic surgery at Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery.

Beryl completed visiting fellowships in France & Belgium with a focus on breast reconstruction. She participated in the Dutch Association for Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship (DAFPRS) fellowship programme at Dreifaltigkeits-Krankenhaus, near Cologne in Germany, under the tutelage of Dr Dirk Richter, the current president of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).

Beryl's continuing commitment to develop professionally takes her to local and international meetings in both reconstruction and aesthetic surgery. She attended various workshops and conferences focusing on facial aesthetics and body contouring surgeries. She visited Taiwan’s Chang Gung Hospital and attended international meetings in Japan, South Korea and Malaysia.

She currently serves as a member in the ISAPS Residents & Fellows Committee representing Asia Pacific region, helping to promote proper education and training to future plastic and aesthetic surgeons.

She has also participated in voluntary charitable work with Interplast, operating at Kiribati in 2016.
