Dr Winkel graduated from the University of Queensland in 2009, before being introduced to the Sunshine Coast as a Junior Doctor. After completing specialist examinations, he then moved to Melbourne to learn the art of Neurology, primarily at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, one of the leading research institutions in Australia. He undertook additional Fellowships in both Epilepsy and Neuromuscular diseases (including Neurophysiology - nerve and muscle testing), whilst also undertaking a PhD through the University of Melbourne. He has recently returned to the Sunshine Coast with his young family to help expand the new tertiary Neurology service at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, and he plans to practice on the Sunshine Coast for the rest of his life.
As a Clinical Neurophysiologist, Dr Winkel can perform diagnostic testing that only very few other specialists in Queensland (and Australia) can do, and he has a passion for improving access to Neurological services on the Coast in both the Public and Private sectors.
